Bonjour Brumaire -- who joined us the day after arriving back in Canada following a succesful European summer tour -- were not the easiest band to locate on the day of the shoot. Roughly 20 minutes past call time, our exchanged text messages went like this:
 
TT: Where are you guys?
BB: Right at the corner of Charlotte and Adelaide
TT (after walking to the corner of Charlotte and Adelaide): Um, I don't see you.
BB: We are in the parking lot, a blue van.
TT (standing in parking lot): Hm. Still don't see you.
BB: We are right here.
TT (bewildered): Say again, where?
BB: ...

Eventually, employing our keen observational talents, it became apparent that a block down the street  the young blonde fellow tapping on his blackberry next to a dark blue van was none other than Nathan Howard, guitar player and GPS-coordinator for the band. Using a variety of smoke signals and semaphores we were finally able to guide the band towards the actual pickup location, only 35 minutes later. hehe.

As we helped lug their gear down the block, we had a chance to chat with the trio (keyboardist Karine Novelle and guitarist Mathieu Dumontier were both back in Montreal) about their Euro-tour, their growing success in Montreal and the challenges that face francophone bands inside and outside Quebec.

After getting settled into the streetcar, Transit's sound team began setting up the mics and gear and we headed off towards Toronto's East end. Missing their keyboardist and a guitar player provided a couple challenges for the band in terms of arranging their songs, but you could tell that their tour had really earned them their musical chops. They soundchecked with "Argelès" and "Le comble du hasard" and then as we rolled past the NXNE showcase at Dundas and Yonge they treated us to wonderful rendition (that you see here) of "Faute de grives". 

We really can't say enough about how generous, funny and easy-going Nathan, Youri and Francois were through their performance. Hopefully you'll agree that these guys really do deserve recognition as a talented and exciting band to watch for in the future. Enjoy!

Récipiendaire des prix Révélation de l’Année et Album Indie Pop de l’Année lors du dernier Gala de l’Alternative Musicale Indépendante du Québec (GAMIQ), Bonjour Brumaire est issu d’une rencontre insolite et improbable entre un Français, un Québécois anglophone, deux Québécois francophones et une Suissesse, à Montréal en 2007.

Suite à l’enregistrement d’un premier démo éponyme en mars 2007, le groupe s’est fait vite remarquer sur la scène émergente québécoise. Leurs chansons séduisent les radiodiffuseurs indépendants, et atteignent en quelques semaines la tête de différents palmarès francophones.

La formation entre alors en studio avec Ryan Battistuzzi (Malajube, We Are Wolves, Les Breastfeeders) afin d’entamer l’enregistrement d’un premier album en novembre 2007. Enregistré et mixé dans quatre studios différents à Montréal, le groupe a pu travailler sur la console qui a enregistré les mythiques “Exile on Main Street” des Rolling Stones et “Physical Graffiti” de Led Zeppelin.

L’opus, intitulé “De la Nature des Foules”, est lancé en avril 2008. Le quintet est le premier groupe francophone canadien dont l’album a été placé en écoute en intégralité sur le site communautaire Myspace avant sa sortie.

Nominé pour les MIMI 2008, Bonjour Brumaire a été finaliste des Francouvertes et lauréat du prix SODRAC de la meilleure composition pour la chanson “Argelès”. Le groupe a également été nominé dans le cadre du Prix Echo / SOCAN de la chanson de l’année pour “Argelès”, pour les CBC Radio 3 Bucky Awards avec la chanson “Le candidat” dans la catégorie “Best reason to learn french” et comme Meilleur Artiste/Groupe Francophone aux 9e Independent Music Awards (The Indies).

Après avoir parcouru l’est du Canada pendant tout le printemps et l’été 2008, et avoir participé à différent festivals (Francofolies de Montréal, Festival d’Été de Québec, Osheaga, Woodstock en Beauce, Coup de Coeur Francophone, Canadian Music Week, POP Montreal), le groupe revient du festival SXSW à Austin (Texas) et d'une tournée de trois semaines en Europe qui l'a amené en France, Belgique et Suisse.

Trimbalant dans ses bagages un univers musical aux horizons multiples, Bonjour Brumaire se caractérise par son style particulier et sa richesse mélodique. Sur scène, la formation impressionne par sa présence charismatique et ses chansons aux rythmes accrocheurs.
